What Does Ceramic Coating Cost — And Why Do Quotes Vary So Much?

September 16, 2026 · 6 min read

The short version
  • Professional ceramic coating commonly starts around $1,000 and climbs from there — J.D. Power puts it at “$1,000 or more.”
  • Most of the price is labor, not the bottle. Paint correction is what takes the hours.
  • Vehicle size, paint condition, how many years the package is warrantied, and extras like wheels, glass and trim move the number most.
  • A much cheaper quote usually means less correction — and a coating locks in whatever is underneath it.
  • The only way to get a real number is an inspection under proper lights. We quote after we see the paint.

The short answer

Professional ceramic coating isn’t a fixed-price product. J.D. Power puts professional application at “$1,000 or more,” and that tracks with what real quotes look like: a well-kept car with a single-layer coating sits near the bottom, while a big truck with neglected paint and a five-year package sits well above it.

If you’re seeing a few hundred dollars, look closely at what’s included. That price usually means a spray sealant rather than a true bonded coating, or a coating applied straight over the existing paint with no correction.

You’re paying for the prep, not the bottle

The coating itself is a small part of the cost. The hours go into everything that happens before it: a decontamination wash, clay and iron removal, then machine paint correction to take out swirls, wash marks and oxidation.

That step matters because a coating is clear and it’s permanent for years. It doesn’t hide swirls — it seals them in and adds gloss on top, which often makes them easier to see. Every coating we do includes a decon wash and one- to two-step correction for exactly that reason.

A coating magnifies whatever is under it. Correct first, or you’re locking in the damage.

What actually moves the price

FactorWhy it changes the number
Vehicle sizeA dually or a three-row SUV has far more panel than a coupe — more correction, more coating.
Paint conditionThe biggest swing. Light swirls need a one-step; neglected or heavily marred paint needs a two-step or more.
Package length1-, 3- and 5-year coatings are different products with different layer counts and prep standards.
Coverage add-onsWheels, glass, trim, plastics and interior surfaces can each be coated — each adds labor.
Color and paint typeBlack and dark paint shows every defect, so it usually needs more correction to finish clean.
Pairing with PPFFilm on the front end plus coating over the top is a bigger job, but it’s done in one visit.

How our packages are structured

We install FEYNLAB coatings, and the packages step up by protection and warranty length rather than by how shiny they look on day one:

  • ·Bronze — single-layer FEYNLAB Original with a detox wash and correction as needed, 1-year warranty.
  • ·Silver — FEYNLAB Ceramic V3 with a one- to two-step correction, 3-year warranty. The most common pick.
  • ·Gold — multi-layer FEYNLAB Ultra V2 over full correction prep, 5-year warranty.
  • ·Heal Lite — FEYNLAB’s self-healing option, 5-year, for owners who want the most forgiving finish.

Why the cheapest quote usually costs more later

There are really only three ways to make a ceramic job cheap: skip correction, use a lesser product, or rush the prep. All three show up later, and none of them are fixable without removing the coating and starting over.

The honest comparison isn’t price against price — it’s what’s included against what’s included. Ask any shop how many correction steps the quote covers, what product and warranty length you’re getting, and whether wheels, glass and trim are in or out.

What it costs to keep

Maintenance is where a coating pays you back. You stop waxing entirely, washing gets faster because dirt releases instead of clinging, and the finish keeps its gloss instead of oxidizing in the Texas sun.

Plan on regular maintenance washes using proper technique — that’s the whole upkeep. A maintenance wash every few weeks costs far less than the annual wax-and-polish cycle it replaces.

Getting a real number for your vehicle

Any shop quoting a truck sight-unseen is guessing. We look at the paint under the lights, tell you what correction it actually needs, and quote the package that matches how you use the vehicle — then you decide.

Tell us the year, make and model, roughly how the paint looks today, and whether you want wheels, glass or trim included. That’s enough for a real number.

Straight answers

Common questions.

How much does ceramic coating cost?

Professional application generally starts around $1,000 and goes up from there — J.D. Power describes it as “$1,000 or more.” Where your vehicle lands depends on its size, the condition of the paint, which package you choose and whether you add wheels, glass or trim. We quote after inspecting the paint.

Why is one shop half the price of another?

Almost always because of paint correction. Correction is the labor-heavy part, so a quote that skips it is dramatically cheaper — and the coating then seals those swirls in for years. Compare how many correction steps, which product, and what warranty each quote includes.

Does the price include paint correction?

Ours does. Every coating includes a decontamination wash and a one- to two-step paint correction. Heavily marred paint may need more correction than the package covers, and we show you that before we start rather than after.

Is ceramic coating cheaper than a repaint?

By a wide margin. A coating protects the paint you have from UV, oxidation, bug etching and chemical staining. It's maintenance that delays wear — not a substitute for bodywork once damage is done.

Can I just do it myself with a kit?

DIY kits are cheap, but the coating only performs as well as the prep underneath it, and correction is the part that needs a machine polisher, proper lighting and practice. A bad DIY coating usually costs more to remove than a professional job would have cost.

Does ceramic coating replace paint protection film?

No — they solve different problems. Coating is a thin chemical layer for gloss, UV and easy cleaning; PPF is a thick urethane film that absorbs rock chips. Many customers put film on the front end and coat the whole vehicle over the top.

Prices here are general market ranges, not a quote, and they change with the vehicle, its condition and the package. Ask us for a real number on your vehicle.
